Saving the Tasmanian Devil - The Toledo Zoo & Aquarium/PBS
In 2015 I spent 3.5 weeks following Tasmanian Devil researchers and biologists throughout the Tasmanian countryside. 90% of Tasmanian Devils have been killed by a contagious cancer that appeared in 1996. Our job: to catch as many wild devils as we can and collect sample materials for researchers, to ultimately find a cure for these iconic animals.
PBS Synopsis: "The wild population of Tasmanian Devils, an iconic, yet often misunderstood species, has experience a devastating 90% mortality rate since the discovery of Devil Facial Tumor Disease (DFTD) on their native island in 1996. Follow the Toledo Zoo & Aquarium as they join researchers and biologists working to save one of the world's most unique animals."

In Honduras there exists a chain of islands known as Cayos Cochinos. Recognized as a one of the key sections of the Meso-American Reef to preserve by the Smithsonian Institute, TNC, WWF, and World Bank, commercial fishing has been banned and it has become a marine sanctuary. However, the Garifuna people have lived virtually the same way since the late 1700s, are allowed to remain within the sanctuary, using traditional fishing methods to survive.
